About Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF):
Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) is an ecological think tank and an advocacy organization promoting food sovereignty and environmental/climate justice in Nigeria and Africa.
HOMEF’s vision is for an ecologically just world where all beings live in harmony with Mother Earth and her driving mission is: working to support a wholesome ecological and socially cohesive/inclusive communities where people live in solidarity and dignity.
HOMEF’s work tackles problems created by the agricultural model that is basically colonial and sees food as a commodity thereby generating hunger and encouraging biodiversity erosion through approaches including by using genetic engineering in agriculture and harmful agricultural chemicals.
Background:
HOMEF is seeking a proficient technical consultant to develop an Interactive Automated Chatbot System. This system aims to provide accurate and accessible information on pesticide active ingredients, their health and environmental impacts, regulatory statuses, and organic alternatives. The chatbot will serve as an educational tool for farmers, consumers, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), extension workers, and farmer’s associations in Nigeria.
Scope of Work:
1. System Design and Development:
- Design and develop an AI-driven chatbot system operational via website, WhatsApp, and SMS platforms.
- Implement advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques for effective query understanding and response generation.
- Develop a user-friendly interface allowing queries on pesticide active ingredients, health implications, environmental threats, regulatory statuses globally and within Nigeria, and organic alternatives.
2. Data Collection and Integration:
- Gather pertinent documents and data sources related to pesticide active ingredients, health impacts, environmental risks, regulatory information, and organic alternatives.
- Utilize NLP methods to extract structured information and transform it into vector representations suitable for database querying.
- Design and implement a scalable database architecture for efficient storage and retrieval of vectorized data.
3. API Development and Integration:
- Create robust APIs to connect the vector database with the chatbot interface.
- Ensure seamless integration between the chatbot and database, enabling real-time retrieval of information based on user queries.
- Implement mechanisms for regular data updates and system maintenance.
4. Deployment and Testing:
- Deploy the developed chatbot system on designated platforms (website, WhatsApp, SMS).
- Conduct comprehensive testing to validate functionality, accuracy, and responsiveness across various user scenarios.
- Incorporate user feedback mechanisms to iterate and enhance system performance.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record in developing AI-driven chatbot systems, particularly in information retrieval and NLP applications.
- Expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, database management, and API development.
- Familiarity with relevant data sources and documentation concerning pesticide active ingredients, health and environmental impacts, and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong programming skills, particularly in Python, and proficiency in NLP libraries (e.g., NLTK, spaCy, Transformers).
- Experience with scalable database solutions (SQL or NoSQL) and API frameworks (e.g., Flask, Django).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and incorporate feedback for continuous improvement.
Application Process:
Interested consultants are invited to submit the following documents:
- Detailed proposal outlining the approach, methodology, and timeline for developing the Interactive Automated Chatbot System.
- Curriculum vitae highlighting relevant experience and expertise.
- Samples or demonstrations of previous AI-driven chatbot projects, if available.
- Cost estimate and budget breakdown for the proposed development phase.
Timeline and Deliverables:
– Application Deadline: 22 September 2024
