SOE- Extractivism, Climate and Food Crises

March 1, 2023 @ 10:00 am - March 2, 2023 @ 5:00 pm

Impacts of climate change on communities are taking unprecedented dimensions in ways that further escalate the vulnerability of these communities, posing challenges to responses and possible recovery. This challenge has been worsened by the operations of extractive industry whose pollution further compounds the problems. Agriculture and food industry has also been hit by the changing climatic conditions which in turn impacts on the well being of people, especially those in the rural areas. To move forward and heal, there is a need to build and strengthen resilience for recovery, wellness, and rights, and to promote critical understanding of climate change impacts, exacerbated by impacts from anthropogenic activities and the impacts on wellbeing of peoples.

This session of the School of Ecology critically examined/interrogated the nexus between Climate Change, Extractivism and Food Crises and attempt to point people to a better and more sustain-able approach/solutions to the challenges posed by climate change
