SoE: Protected Areas: For Whom, From What?

To continue in our effort to promote the healing of territories – our theme for 2023 – HOMEF will be hosting a School of Ecology Session titled ‘Protected Areas: For Whom, From What?’
This session will review threats to the marine ecosystem and examine ways of monitoring and supporting marine and freshwater systems. It will also focus on the place of Marine Protected Areas in the region and review the need and hindrances to creating marine protected areas in Nigeria and Africa.
The overall aim of the session is to support the preservation of marine ecosystems and livelihoods along Nigeria’s coastline communities and especially in the Bight of Benin through policy advocacy for the creation of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).
